Information

Client: OPUS Building Services Ltd, Boldon
Project Location: IT Hub, Seaton Delaval
Project Scope: New Disability Access Ramp Installation

Project Overview

BRL Civil Engineering was engaged by OPUS Building Services Ltd to construct a new disability access ramp at the IT Hub in Seaton Delaval. The project required careful planning and precise execution to address specific site challenges, including shallow services and integration with future works.

Our Approach

Hand Excavation

Due to the presence of various shallow services, all excavation work was carried out by hand to ensure accuracy and prevent damage to existing utilities.

Pin Kerb Installation

Pin kerbs were expertly installed to provide structure and durability to the ramp’s design.

Manhole Construction

A new recessed manhole was set to accommodate the ramp’s layout while maintaining accessibility for future maintenance.

Ramp Base Preparation

- The base was stoned up and covered with visqueen to create a moisture barrier.
- Reinforcement mesh was laid to ensure strength and longevity.

Concrete Pouring

Concrete, supplied by Aggregate Industrials, was poured and finished to complete the ramp structure.

Collaboration and Future Works

To finalise the project, the door opening will be cut out and installed by other contractors in the New Year. This collaborative approach ensures seamless integration with the building’s overall accessibility enhancements.

Outcome

The project was completed on time and met all required standards, providing the IT Hub with a durable and functional access ramp tailored to the needs of its users.
